Leading
Today for a Better Tomorrow - Eight individual
students who possess the leadership abilities and the insight
necessary to make a better campus and community recently joined
together to institute the Student Concerns Committee, or SCC. This
new organization was formulated by Anita Paukovits, executive
vice president and implemented by Mike Miskevish, recreation
director, as an avenue to connect the voices of the students
with the ears of the administration.
The group members, Trey, Anthony, Tia, Destiny, Andrew, Shareef,
Duquan, and Jose were chosen from each of the units to represent
the student body based on their positive attitudes and exceptional
leadership skills. By joining the committee, they have pledged
to get to know everyone on campus and to ensure that their voices
are heard. Their task to embody constructive deeds is exemplified
in the committee’s mission statement: ‘A group of young
adults dedicated to positive attitudes and positive change within
ourselves and our environment’.
Though the SCC is a committee relatively new to the Children’s
Home of Easton, these young members have already made a difference
in many lives. They executed the first annual Mike Litak
Thanksgiving Day Meal celebration on November 15, which proved
to be a huge success! The entire campus was invited to the
gym in an effort to bring everyone together to enjoy and commemorate
what all there is to be thankful for. While the administration
served food to the guests, Shareef presented a wonderful speech
titled, “What Thanksgiving Means to Me in the Children’s
Home” and Duquan recited an enlightening prayer.
These dedicated young adults have an uncommon appreciation for
the community around them, and have chosen to seek ways to give
back to it. They have taken on the responsibility of preparing
and delivering meals for Safe Harbor on a regular basis, and are
enjoying how gratuitous hard work can feel.
The committee is always looking for new ways to connect with the
student body and community. They are in the midst of planning
a possible future Spring Fling and Talent Show. Keep your
eyes open for upcoming events that promise to be engaging and successful!
These students have taken the challenge of bettering themselves
and the campus to new heights. As promising young adults,
they have chosen to give of themselves continuously to ensure that
the students, the administration, and the surrounding community
are all participants in their efforts to connect in a positive
manner.
