Huneeus

Agustin Huneeus, Jr.

Agustin Francisco Huneeus, owner/partner of Huneeus Vintners, began his formal career in the wine business in 1989. After graduating from the University of California at Berkeley, Huneeus relocated to his family’s native Chile where he was instrumental in developing and managing Caliterra and Errazuriz, at that time imported to the US by his family. After two years running the companies Chilean export operation, Huneeus returned to California to become general manager of Estancia Estates.

To expand his knowledge and skills, Huneeus received an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He then joined San Francisco-based Hambrecht & Quist as an associate in the branded consumer venture group, gaining management and marketing experience with several consumer product companies.

Huneeus joined his father at Franciscan Estates in 1996 to lead the winery’s sales and marketing team. After selling the company to Constellation Brands, Inc. in 1999, he stayed on in the role of President and CEO. Huneeus is responsible for crafting the super-premium image of the Franciscan Estates portfolio, now re-named Icon Estates, and overseeing a period of substantial growth.

In 2004, Huneeus left Constellation to pursue a new venture with his father. The two Huneeus launched Huneeus Vintners, a company dedicated to building a portfolio of fine wine estates in which they have an ownership stake. Today the company produces, sells and markets Quintessa, Flowers, The Prisoner, Saldo, Faust, Illumination wines from California Veramonte, Primus, Ritual and Neyen from Chile and is actively studying acquisitions and joint ventures in the higher spectrum of the wine industry.
