During the 1990’s, Kirk and Denise learned about wine making and the wine business from Ed Selyem, Denise’s father at Williams & Selyem Winery. In 2000 they left Williams & Selyem Winery and started WesMar Winery and began restoring an old apple processing warehouse in Sebastopol, CA.

Their Wine making Philosophy is simple…….What is in the best interest of great wine? Start by securing the best fruit available. Employ old world methods: hand sorting of fruit, open top fermentations, hand punch downs of fermenting grapes, gravity removal of wine from fermenters and removal of grape skins by hand. Once in barrel the wines are allowed to settle and clear naturally, unfined and unfiltered. Gentle treatment of the grapes and the barreled wine allows Wesmar wines to show all of their complexities and nuances.

As it is just Kirk and Denise, along with dog Zoey, their production remains small, averaging about 1,000 cases of Pinot Noir per year, all sourced from the Sonoma Coast and Russian River appellations. Truly boutique. Truly special.
