The Donelan Family of Donelan Family Wines

Donelan Family Wines, a boutique winery in Sonoma County, was founded by Joe Donelan. His discovery for wine started in the 1980’s, inspired at a restaurant called Toppers. Joe soon became captivated with California and the winemaking the came with the land. He became well acquainted with Sonoma County vineyards and they inspired Joe  to branch off on his own. What once was Pax Wine Cellars soon become Donelan Family Wines.

Donelan Family Wines has “family” in the name because that is what they are all about. Joe Donelan has two sons that also help run the family business. Tripp Donelan is the director of sales. Tripp makes the sales and travels, always scouting for new clients. Cushing Donelan is the director of marketing. He helps by making the brand stand out from the rest along with pursuing new partnerships. Joe Nielsen is the winemaker; although he may not be related by blood, he is very much a part of the family.

Donelan Family Wines allows individuals to enjoy wine at its finest. The Donelan family believes that “the greatest wines are not made, but discovered.” Their wine has been ranked in the top 100 wines on several occasions. Wine Advocate scores several of Donelan’s wines 96 and higher. Several of Donelan’s Syrah wines have been noted as magnificent by Robert Parker.
